The 2026 PLRMR Opening Ceremony
March 9, 2026

The 2026 Patrick L Ruth Memorial Relays marked the beginning of the high school outdoor track and field season in the metro area. Our opening ceremony is uniquely dedicated to honoring the sacrifices of those who serve our nation. Your participation makes it a very special event.
Tribute to Service
The meet is held in memory of Lieutenant Patrick "Tank" Ruth, a Brother Martin alumnus, champion track athlete, and U.S. Naval aviator. Patrick and LTJG Wallace Burch lost their lives in an aviation mishap on October 1st, 2017.
Commemoration of Fallen Heroes
We take special time to also honor fallen alumni from all participating schools. We asked those in attendance to join in a moment of silence and reflection for those currently in harm's way and especially for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Presentation of Colors Ceremony
The Brother Martin Navy Junior ROTC color guard presented the colors, led by Cadet Lieutenant Junior Grade Ahmad Karim and Cadet Petty Officer First Class Athens Diaz. Mr. Paul Weiser performed a stirring rendition of our national anthem on the trumpet.
Recognition of Sponsors
We extend our deepest gratitude to all of our sponsors who made this competition possible. Especially to:
- The Wingman Foundation: Recognized for its dedicated support of military families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty.
- Brother Martin High School: We thank the school and its track and field program for hosting this LHSAA-sanctioned event.
The opening ceremony expressed best wishes to all participating student athletes and acknowledged The Patrick L Ruth Foundation and the Ruth family's sincere appreciation for their support.
